These kind of stories motivates me..
Today we would like to share a story of one of our friend.
The story about his continuous efforts and attempt to save a life. This is the
story about how Rikesh Banjara, a 21-year old B.Sc.MLT student from Belchowk,Narayangarh who goes to
limits on trying to save a life of a 4
months old baby-boy from Gaindakot ; Bishal B.K.
Following is an
excerpt taken during our conversation with Rikesh .
“I had just finished my classes and was on my way towards
the canteen outside Maharajgunj Campus,T.U. Suddenly I saw a familiar face, a
face which reminded me of my home town-Chitwan. In no time I recognized him ,he
was Jiwan Dai. Jiwan dai from Gaindakot.
I knew Jiwan dai (patient’s father) from my early childhood
as Jiwan dai used to work in the shop next to mine in Gaindakot. I casually
asked him “K cha dai?” and other similar questions. He seemed a bit tensed and
anxious and wasn’t that much concerned about my question. Seeing him in the
hospital premises I immediately thought someone from his family might have been
sick or something. After some time I came to know about his 4 months old son
Bishal .Bishal had been admitted in the
Kanti Bal Hospital for the last few days
after he was referred by Chitwan Medical
College for pneumonia. Jiwan dai seemed very desperate and clueless during his
conversation as he mentioned about the
frequent blood check-ups. Being a student related to medical field and
laboratory works, I understood the frequency of the reports were a normal thing
but after how Jiwan dai continuously insisted me and seeing his condition, I
assured him I personally would look into
it .
I myself took him into the lab investigation. There was
something abnormal, everytime we used to take his blood for testing in no time
it would start clotting. Even after putting the blood in the anti-coagulant
solution,it would again start clotting again. This was not something normal.
After further consultation, we came to a conclusion that he was suffering from
clotting disorder.
His health started improving and then he was shifted to the
pediatric ward. But after some days the condition was same again as before.
Bishal was referred for a ventilator. But due to lack of ventilator in Kanti
Bal Children’s hospital we(his father and me)
shifted him to International Friendship Children’s Hospital. He was
admitted for just 1 day . The hospital authority advised us to pay the amount
in time or take the patient elsewhere. The expenses were too much to afford so
we did not had any option but to discharge. Now with limited money (by this
time me and my friend Bijay Das had personally contributed about Rs 20,000 for
this case). Jiwan dai ,by that time had
loosed hope and was seeking ways to go home along with his diseased child. But
simultaneously I was on my own quest for a less expensive but yet a good
hospital where I could get at least a proper ventilator for Bishal.
I insisted Jiwan dai, that it was a question of life of his
son. He too agreed and we took Bishal to Siddhi Memorial Hospital,Bhaktapur. He
was immediately admitted in the ICU and was put on the ventilator. His
condition again started to get better . We contacted Jiwan dai’s sister who was
in the U.K. She sent us some fund which helped us during our stay in the
hospital. I had missed my college for quite some days and didn’t knew for how
long it was going to be.
Bishal stayed in the hospital for 9 days. His health started
to become normal again,he was out of the ventilator and that gave us a sense of
relief. Today its been exactly one year after Bishal’s recovery and I can get a
sense of sastisafction that in his days of struggle I was a part too and that
time I shall remember for the rest of my life. These kind of things motivates
me from inside and keeps me going on with life. Whenever I meet Jiwan dai we
remember the days that we went through. I see his similing face and I smile in
return. “
We are proud to have a friend like Rikesh. Keep up the good work bro.
God be with you.
