Ama, 8 bajyo, serial aune bela bho(Grandmother, its 8 time for the daily soap)
Hello ,this is my 2nd blog that i'm writing. Its around 9:00 p.m ,Saturday( Mangsir 5th, 2072 B.S). Everyone in home is busy watching the daily soaps. Well, i'm not much of a serial(daily soap)viewer, but there are a handful of shows in television that i like to watch with my family. Among them, one of the show is "Balika Vadhu": as the title, the show too focuses on the condition of female child, its a show mainly depicting the consequences of child marriage, traditional culture and norms:whether they are still implementory or not , and many other related social issues. This show in our family is like the "must have to watch show"in our family , but really it's fun siting with all the family members together watching TV (Well it is rightly said in one of the advertisement line of SAB T.V ; "asli maza to SAB ke saath hi ata hai/Real happiness comes when all the family member sit together and enjoy, haha) and on a positive note, the show offers a good social message at the end of the show , everytime it is broadcasted.
It's been almost 5 years my grandmother started watching this show, exactly after when we moved from Birgunj to Bharatpur(many reasons , few being moving here for better hospital treatements for Ama and also due to the then,Terai riots) this show started in 2008 and right after its start it was a instant hit show.Regarding the name of the show is "Balika Vadhu",Balika means girl and Vadhu means Bride, The content of this show is about child marriage an ill practice ,which in some parts of South Asia, mainly in India and Nepal,is still practiced today. After my grandmother started watching this show, all of the members in our family too got interested in this show and we in an instant got hooked up by this show.Covering issues from Early child marriage, Equality among Gender, Female foeticide, ragging in colleges, goons in society , and just about every social cause is focused and the solution is advised in this show in a very simple yet interesting and good way.The characters change frequently but the protagonist, here Anandi(the daughter), Jagiya(the son) and Masa(the Grandmother), mostly carry the message through them. Right now the burning topic is whether Nimodi(Anandi's lost daughter), would again come back to Anandi or not(Woah! i must be sounding like i'm might be so into this serial thing, right? but frankly speaking, I'm am,hahahah) The relationships , the drama ,the social message of this show is what that has kept me hooked to this show. Also due to this show, i get to talk with my grandmother a lot,we sometimes discuss about what is going to happen next, whether Anandi is going to get her daughter back again or not(maybe it sounds funny and ridiculous but it is really fun talking this things with my grandmother)(Seriously after speaking so much about this show ,the creators of this show should make me the brand ambasaddor of this show here in Nepal, lol)and my grandmother sometimes share laugh while discussing whether when is the show going to end, my Grandmother says " Yo Budi(Masa-the grandmother in the show)ko natak kaile na bhei ni bho/ this old lady's(the old lady in the show) drama won't end soon.). My lovely old grandmother feels happy when we all the members of the family sit together and watch the show. This makes my lovely grandmother happy, which ultimately makes me happy.
(And again i want to say that im not that of a regular serial/daily soap viewer)LOL!
Thanks Baika Vadhu for making my grandmother happy, and me....haha.
